Call Of Duty: squiLL's Movie Corner: The Best of CoD2

By: Mike Cassara - Published October 01, 2007 at 8:33 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Mike "squiLL" Cassara picks out what he considers to be the top 15 Call of Duty 2 movies of all time in his final Movie Corner before the release of Call of Duty 4.

You asked for it! squiLL’s movie corner returns with a new top 15. This time only Call of Duty 2 movies have been nominated. With over hundreds of movies made since the games release, the field has been narrowed down to the 15 best.

How they were rated

Rankings were based on editing, content, frag quality, and overall enjoyment. The movie must be primarily a frag movie. Documentaries, clip segments, and trailers were not acceptable for nomination.

And now to get things rolling...

15. Momentum

Starting the list off you have one of the more acclaimed movie makers in the European community, Cem. In one of his more famous movies "Momentum", Cem does an awesome job showcasing his frags against some of the best teams in Europe. The intro was simple, but very well done. I enjoyed that the movie got right to the point and the frags just started rolling. However, the thing that I dislike most about European movies is the fact that the majority of these frags come from scrims or pcws and not official matches. Overall, the movie kept my attention and made me laugh during the intermission. These are the main reasons "Momentum" landed the number 15 spot on my list.

14. MAXXURECTED

Being primarily a rifle in Call of Duty 2, I have respect for people who know how to use it to the fullest extent. The way Maxxur uses his rifle just baffles me at times. Many people seemed to criticize the music that was used throughout "Maxxurected". However, I thought the music fit almost perfectly to the shot selection. The insane amounts of one-shot frags were off the charts.

Usually I do not enjoy short movies with a few select one-shot kills but "Maxxurected" was an exception. Many movie makers do not how to put together a movie that has so few series kills. Despite the fact that I am not a big fan of techno, this was probably the first time I have seen a movie that had the perfect soundtrack for the frag selection.

13. dSlash: OnFire

Probably my personal favorite movie to not have in-game sound. dSlash: OnFire showcases the former German cod2 team as they tore up the cod2 scene back in the day. This movie had it all, great shots, great editing and very entertaining music.

There were a few flaws in this movie. The intro was much too long for starters. It seemed like it took forever to get to the frag portion. However, once the bullets started flying you knew you were in for a treat. Personally my favorite part is when "living in the dmz" came on and you see skalt go nuts.

Onfire was a great movie. The only reason it did not make the top 10 is due to the lack of in-game sound. A must download if you haven’t already!

12. Phil Collins: Return of the Titz

There is no other movie in Call of Duty 2 history that made me laugh more than "return of the titz". Phil was an absolute beast when he played the game and this movie defiantly highlights his skill.

What made this movie so comical were the ventrilo clips that phil added to his shots. Whether it was someone yelling something absurd, or seeing nuc in his incredible hulk shirt, you just had to laugh.

Not only was phil a comic genius, he was a great fragger as well. He always put up big numbers with the scope, defeating some of the best teams to play the game. Most notably shockwave, where phil showcases his $1000 clutch.

The man of 1000 aliases shines in this film. This is why he landed at the #12 spot on my list.

11. Team Velvet: The Rise

Created by: Kez6

"The first is usually the best in trilogies" – Spielberg.

Kez6 became one of Europe’s most acclaimed filmmakers after “The Rise” was released, and for good reason. To this day, this movie has one of best intros I have ever seen in a Call of Duty 2 film. I absolutely loved the song that went along with the intro. It just seemed to fit perfectly, along with the snippets from various action films.

Not only did this film have a unique soundtrack but, it had great frags against some top teams. Plus, the editing in this film was near perfect. Kez6 did a great job blending songs together to make the movie fluent and never stop.

The two things that held this movie back were once again, no in-game sounds and scrim shots. The scrim shots were not the biggest deal however, if this movie had in-game sound it would have easily made the top 10.
