Call Of Duty: Call of Duty 4: The Cure

Gotfrag’s Phill Palmer in the last of a series takes a look at what the future holds when it comes to the future of Call of Duty 4, in the aid of progressing competitive play.

Here we are at last, over the past week or so I have tried to get you all thinking about possible changes in Call of Duty 4. This has just been the first step in the plan to make CoD4 the success it has the potential to be. Already it has been added to the WCG list of possible games that you can influence by voting here. Anyway I digress, behind the scenes the CoD2 community has once again been gearing itself for some united action but this time it has it’s sights set on CoD4! I am pleased to present The Cure, C.U.R.E - Community United Rule-set Effort.

To begin with I will inform you of the plan and then how you can be involved and have your say. While this is all premature with the game not being out yet there is much to plan for and it will take a while for the word to spread so there is no time like the present.

Each major country within the community has been assigned a representative; these representatives will be able to be contacted via IRC and can be viewed at the bottom of the page. As well as players from all over the world there will also be special guests who will give their ideas as spectators.

Once the game is out there will be several tournaments set up so people can get the feel of how competitive play will be like. The players will then be able to vote on rule changes they feel should be made and how they feel the particular rules affect the game by posting on the forums. For example the first tournament will have the following rule set.

Note: This rule set is merely an example and is not being presented as an ideal system.

Bomb timer = 45
Bomb timer clock = OFF
Shotgun limit = 1
Sniper limit = 1
Health Regen = OFF
Shellshock = OFF
Grenade indicator = OFF
Grenade per person = 1
Round limit = 10
Round time = 1:45
Red dot radar = OFF
Hit blip = OFF
Cookable grenades = OFF
Sprint = OFF
Perks = OFF

The next tournament will have a completely different set of rules that give the game an entirely new feeling. After having several tournaments with different rule sets the representatives and spectators will then hold a meeting and discuss the best course of action for the future based on the findings from the games that have been played. This will give Call of Duty 4 the advantage from game play wise as well as being spectator friendly and appealing to the major tournaments.

While this is being set up the group will function in other ways such as set tasks for different countries like finding DVAR \ CVAR commands to add into PAM that improve game play for example.

Once a rule set has been devised the group will hold meetings to make sure everything runs smoothly and to increase interest from external sources in CoD4. There will be more announcements to come that will focus on the tournament rules, who are hosting the tournaments and other exciting news!
