Counter-Strike: e-STRO interview from EM II

By: Liam Crowley - Published March 07, 2008 at 9:26 PM EST - Writer Archive
Liam "crow" Crowley talks to e-STRO team manager Seong-Hwan "Hwanni" Kim at the ESL Extreme Masters II LAN finals.
Seong-Hwan "Hwanni" Kim, manager of South Korean Counter-Strike clan e-STRO knew his team faced two very tough matches versus SK and Virtus.pro as he spoke of what lay ahead. Sitting down opposite of GotFrag's Liam "Crow" Crowley before the matches would play out, Kim expressed that he was well aware that it was do or die time. e-STRO had to win one of the upcoming matches to proceed. Yesterday's defeat to Team Alternate was followed by an emphatic recovery against Excello this morning, but Kim remained wary of the threat posed by the Europeans.

As well as today's games, topics of discussion range from last year's controversy at WCG to the differences between Asian and European teams in modern Counter-Strike. Kim admits e-STRO have taken a new direction since the World Cyber Games and talks about the addition of Su Young "ari" Jung as a positive influence on the side.

With everything still to play for at the Extreme Masters, the Koreans remained firmly in contention and team spirit was high. Two of Europe's top teams stood in their way, and within the next couple of hours their fate would become known.

The interview with Kim, along with clips of e-STRO highlights from matches throughout the Extreme Masters event can be found below.

This interview was performed before e-STRO's last two matches of the day, at the time no one knew that e-STRO would end up moving on to a Relegation match by the thinnest of margins. They play Roccat at 6am EST/12pm CET in a best-of-three match for the right to move on to double-elimination bracket play with three other teams.
