Counter-Strike: GotSkills? CEVO Pro S9 Week 1

By: Brent Meeder - Published July 17, 2008 at 5:45 PM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag is back with its edition of GotSkills for Week 1 of CEVO Professional.
USA - CyberEvolution is here for what looks to be an intriguing season with the competition just getting warm. coL and MoB are in a race to take the championship from the current defenders, X3O. Despite being defending champs, they suffered a huge loss to EG a week ago and has hurt them in the standings thus far. As EG rides the top after the first week, X3O will look to see how they can change that.

Top 5 Team Performances of the Week

1. United States EG - Showing massive improvement off their big win over X3O and it only looks to get better as they take an early lead in the standings.
2. United States coL - After being in the shadows for over a year, they've been able to manage well putting 12 rounds on X3O and getting ready to test their skills against EG next week.
3. United States MoB - A couple easy match-ups in the first week that didn't give them any contest. Their true test for redemption will come in the later weeks.
4. United States mainGear - Only team from the Placement event to acheive two wins so far and was able to defeat a returning team, Mug N Mouse, to close out the week.
5. United States Iniquity - Also opening up with two wins will give them a boost and are fixing their roster as Gibbons returns to the lineup.

Player of the Week: Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert - For the second time, Gilbert has played outstanding in the first week of play. After their huge win over X3O, he ended up averaging 21 frags a game, 110+ DAR, and 1.00 FPR. This just comes to show how important of an asset he is to the team.

Surprise of the Week: X3O - 16-3 to EG? I mean I can see if they lost by a few rounds but, to be demolished by a team they've played against several times, on their CT side starting half, you would think they could pick up more than three rounds. This should be a wake up call for a team whos trying to dominate for a third consecutive season.

Stock Rising: Evil Geniuses - Due to their most recent performance over the defending champions, you can sense the amount of heat between the two. This season gets even better as X3O has competition knocking at the door waiting for them.

Stock Falling: Mug N Mouse - Currently sitting with the rest of the Placement teams at 0-2, MNM is off to a bad start. Both losses being to teams who were competing in CEVO Main the season prior. If they want any chance at playoffs, something needs to change right away.
