I miss when there was CPL and WCG. The two big tournaments of the year, when there wasn't a community divided between two games. I get that people like how CGS is more of a accurate league setup, but I grew up on watching CPLs from around the age of 15 to now being 22.
I miss when scrims existed for the purpose of practicing. In cal-m we used to scrim people 3-4 times a night, and there were no words exchanged. If a player DC'd no comments were made unless it went on for about 7 rounds, people were understanding and patient. It was far more professional when there was no professional structure it seems. Now, if you win you're cheating. If you lose you're terrible. Either way, 1 out of 5 make it to halftime it seems now.
I miss when everyone pubbed, even competitive players. I used to play in Communist Playground while CAL-m forever and there were tons of other CAL-m and occassionally Invite players showing up.
I miss when the community wasn't overrun with this e-thug epidemic. Most people that play this game are just regular people, but behind a computer it seems fewer and fewer can keep it that way. I am guilty of that myself, although not so much these years are previously.
I miss when it seemed like everyone played this game for the love of it and the fun of it and used that as a common ground to treat each other with a sense of decency. That is so far gone now it's unbelievable. I no longer have any aspirations with this game, I just ESEA and GunGame with some other ex-main and invite friends who realize how pointless and sad this community has become.

I’ve been thinking about writing this thread for a while now, but I’m just now finally getting around to it. This topic has been mentioned over and over and over again by various people in the community and I think it is something that should be addressed regularly, because it is an ongoing problem.
Fact: the CS community, outside of the most elite professional leagues, has extremely poor sportsmanship.
For some reason, the average male between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five believes that when interacting with a person you can’t see, it isn’t necessary to treat them like a human being. It’s a sad thing really – we treat people differently in a competitive environment online differently than we treat them on the basketball court at the YMCA.
Really though, why are most of us playing CS? Most of us aren’t making money doing this, yet we spend time practicing and scrimming. I guess we play for the fun of it, huh? No one likes to be in a pug and have their ringer leave – it’s annoying, disrespectful, and negatively affects the experience of nine other human beings. And just because you don’t personally know them doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be treated like one. No one playing a pick up game just walks off the basketball court without finding another player to stand in for him. You shouldn’t act differently when playing CS just because it’s easier to escape.
Another thing, if you’re hunting around #findscrim and get a few replies to your ad, have the decency to tell the people you’re not scrimming that you already found one, so they aren’t waiting around in their server for the next 10 minutes telling their teammates “they’ll be here soon.” And for the love of God, don’t give two teams your server info and kick the one that gets there last; no one likes having their time wasted. I think a good, general mentality to have is to be more concerned about the well-being of the people around you than the well-being of yourself.
And what’s with all the trash talking? My high school Cross Country coach would tell is before every race, “If you lose, don’t say anything and maybe no one will notice. If you win, don’t say anything, because they already have.” I think this says a lot. If you’re rolling a team 12-2 while playing T-side Nuke, the team you’re playing has already figured out that you are better than them. There is no need to make yourself look like an ass by saying things like “lolumad?” or “rofl terrible” in MM1. Maybe if you don’t say anything they will respect you rather than think you’re team is comprised of a bunch of a-holes.
And if you’re losing, you think someone’s hacking, or think the server registration stinks, keep it to yourself. You saying it aloud will only cause tempers to flare and make you look like a person looking for excuses. Aside from moving to a new server, nothing is going to fix the registration. Just play out the game and play somewhere else next time.
As far as I’m concerned the only things that should ever be typed in MM1 (and even these aren’t appreciate by everyone) are things like “ns”, “wow that nade raped us”, or “snuck up on you didn’t I? =p”. Notice that none of these things are actually offensive. When talking in MM1, you should either be complimentary or be making a neutral comment.
Seriously, guys… we wonder why our community is dying, then go into our servers and make fun of new players and talk trash to people we don’t even know. If someone is just getting into the scrimming/pugging scene, give them tips, don’t tell them to “go uninstall.” Granted new players can sometimes be immature and annoying. If this is the case, either politely tell them to be more mature or ignore them, don’t abuse them. You were twelve once too.
This has gone on way too long. The main point of this was: be nice, put others before yourself, treat people like you would want to be treated, and help new members to the community.
