John McCain is said to have picked Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska as his vice president.

Let me just say two things so everyone knows. I realize gotfrag isn't the place for anything serious and most of you don't even vote (Or are even old enough) but I'll say this anyways. If I can change one vote, this two minute post will be worth it.

Just because she's a woman, she's still not pro choice. There's no reason why a woman would swing republican because she can't even stand on these moral issues.

She has been governor for only a year and a half. John McCain is 71 years old, if something were to happen to John McCain if elected, this woman would be president of the United States.
She is younger than Obama and a product of the same four more years the Bush administration plans to hand off to McCain.

Obama 08'.

If Obama get's elected Christian I'm going to leave the country. The guy has no experience other then being a senator. He can't even make up his mind on certain issues. EX: One of his answers to a question has been "My paygrade isn't high enough to answer that question." The question was an opinion question, it shows that he is afraid to speak his opinion because he wants votes and that's all he cares about. His wife is anti USA. EX: When she stated she didn't like the country until her husband started running. He promises major change a long with major tax cuts etc... change costs money, where do you think the money is going to come from? Obama is a great motivator and public speaker but will not be a great leader. He has been invited to come with McCain to towns across the USA to get asked questions from real people with no previous written answers and not knowing the questions before hand.. Obama refused to go even though he was invited to every town that McCain went to. He cannot answer questions if he doesn't see them before they are asked on TV or in front of people.

I could go on longer but I don't want to get in a political argument with you Christian because I want to preserve our beautiful friendship lol. I probably won't even look at this thread after I hit the submit button to prevent myself from arguing anymore.

Peace Much Love
McCain 08'

He picked her knowing how close the election is going to be. He is trying to pick up more disgruntled Hillary supporters. He thinks that the undecided and disgruntled Hillary supporters will be more apt to vote for him if he puts a woman on the ticket. This election was going to be the battle of the independent voters, and both candidates appeal to the independents. It is now down to who appeals to them more and how many each party can steal from the other's base. Stealing Hillary supporters cuts into the Democratic base somewhat.

Edit:

Obama is the first black man to be nominated by a major party as the presidential candidate. Mccain is trying to take some fire out of that by nominating a woman. Granted she isnt the first woman to be nominated as a VP candidate, McCain probably hopes it will take some of the spotlight away from Obama for the pick.

I, for one, LOVE McCain's pick.

The reason why is very simple.

In this year's field of players (meaning, the two presidential candidates and their two running mates), Sarah Palin is the closest thing to the ideal of a TRUE citizen politician.

All the other candidates -- both players on the Democrat ticket and McCain himself -- are clear-cut career politicians.

'Career politicians' are a bane on our government, people. They are exactly the opposite of what the founding fathers envisioned when they signed the Constitution and led our nation in its early years.

But all that said... Palin may also not be the wisest of choices in pure "what's most likely to win the election" logic, I have to admit.

Unfortunately, I don't believe the stupid masses to be as enlightened as I am about the problem with career politicians. Indeed, most the popular media will reflect #1's view, the notion that our top political leaders have to be completely saturated with experience in politics as a career in order to be trustworthy.

In truth, I believe it to be exactly the opposite -- the more a politician is a career-man/woman, the LESS trustworthy and competent they are. Leaders that fall under this category become so self-involved with perpetuating their own position of influence in society, that they make the actual job of leading in the most effective and productive manner secondary to the priority of perserving their power itself.

Here's an example. If you look at politicans today (particularly Senators with no term-limits), and observe their actions, it's clear to see that getting re-elected is almost always a higher priority to them than anything else. To this end, they will do little but follow polls on public opinion and exclusively peddle to the desires of their constituency. In a generally democratic way, you might think this is a fine way for a politican to act -- but the problem is that sometimes (very often, in fact), what the public and prevailing majority opinion wants and desires is JUST WRONG. Sometimes a truly good and competent leader understands that he has to do something which will royally p*ss off the public. And doing such, although clearly the right thing to do in the long-term, might very will cost him his next election. And thus we see the problem -- in that situation, the 'career politician' will back down and do the wrong thing, because the ignorant public demands that he do so, and he fears losing the power he presently has by opposing them.

Thus, a good politician must be unafraid of not getting re-elected. And frankly, such individuals are rare to the extreme in the American government today, with the re-election priortizing system we currently have.

And that's why Sarah Palin running as McCain's running mate has now finally determined where my vote will go this election. Like McCain, she's something of a poltical maverick who's been willing to oppose the traditional power-brokers in her own party, and unlike McCain, Obama, and Biden, she has very little of her life invested exclusively in politics at this point.

I agree about career politicians. Ive stated to my friends and family many times that I really wish a constitutional amendment would be passed limiting terms for members of Congress. They had no issues passing one for the president after FDR won 4 terms, but that would put them out of a job. The likely hood of that happening is a whole lotta none.

How can you act in the country's best interest if you are always worried about being re-elected.

Oh and #5, only huge d-bags talk about leaving the country if a politican they don't like gets elected.

It was tiresome and idiotic when people said it in regard to Bush, and it's no different now when it's being said about a politican on the other side of the party line.

So don't be like that, please.

I want McCain because I want to take over the Middle East, kill and invade countries that we don't like because they are different, impose our lifestyle upon them, start preventative and unjustifiable wars, potentially kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people over said neo-Conservative crusade, fuel more hatred towards America, have more planes ran into our buildings, feel unsafe in our own borders, and be generally hated for being the world police.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I don't support either person running for president.

why is it "d-bag"ish not to want to live in a country run by psychotic old men, or to not want to support a retarded war?

You know just cause you live somewhere doesn't mean you have to attach yourself to it's government for the rest of your life.

The funny thing is that Christian is the only one who isn't shortsighted here, you guys seem to like her because she will win the election for McCain, when Christian points out the fact that if the 71 year old mccain was to expire, this dumb broad would be president. disaster.

She compensates slightly for the skeleton looking McCain

I'll try to address the walls of text.

First to eagle;
Most of your points can be proven wrong - even in his 'acceptance' speech last night he addressed all those concerned of yours.
-His wife is NOT anti-American. You're taking what she said out of context. John McCain can't even remember how many houses he owns, so what does that make him?
- Obama's change will cost money, he said he'll go line by line of the budget and eliminate funds/agency's no longer needed. This may not free up billions and billions but it will create a more efficient government.
- Obama has declined on these town talks with McCain because Obama is a showstopper. McCain is boring and can't hardly fill a room of 10,000. It's not a wise strategy to bring your A game for a few hundred people. Obama's message has the power to attract so many, and his message is so strong, he doesn't need to battle McCain. This isn't 2004 and this isn't John Kerry. The old Republican attacking points won't work this time.

This was a dumb pick because Hilliary still plans to become president; this means she wants to keep her 18 million votes. Basically wherever this hot ass old lady goes - Hilliary is going to follow her and remind her woman to vote Obama. She's VERY unknown; and before you said Obama is too - he's been campaigning for president for almost a year now. This woman is probably just now packing her overnight bag.
