At this year's Warfactory tournament in St.Louis, Ageia held a mini-tournament for it's PhysX-enabled game Cell Factor: Revolution for a group of Quake pros attending the event. After the Quake tournament at this summer's Warfactory event, Ageia debuted it's game for the first time in a competitive mini-tournament to some of the Quake players to see what they thought about the game. Now from personal experience with the game, it was extremely fun AFTER you got accustomed to the control scheme which is somewhat complex in comparison to the average FPS. In addition to your standard directional and weapons keys, you have another set of keys for your telekinetic powers, like floating and throwing objects. Speaking of using telekinetic powers, they separate the game from any other other competitive FPS you've played before. Now, you're not simply confined to conventional weapons to destroy your opponents, you can use debris such as scrap-metal and parts laying around to pummel your opponents. This made the competition between the Quake professionals quite interesting. For instance, DaHanG ran out of ammunition as he was trying to escape from a persuing Bauh4us, but quickly found a broken girder and was able to kill his pursuer with it as he turned a corner. There was a drawback to the game though. It was virtually unplayable without the PhysX card. The good part though is that price of the card is relatively low right now at around $150, depending on where you find it. Also, for those planning on playing Unreal 3 and you have the PhysX card installed, you can experience much higher frame rates as well as PhysX-only content. ![]() Gellehsak put the telekinetic feature to use throughout the competition. But Bauh4us(background) was too much for him. You can find more information about the PhysX card at Ageia's website: Ageia.com |
